P00A8

Easy (DIY)

Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit High Bank 2

What Does P00A8 Mean?

The PCM has detected a high-voltage condition on the intake air temperature sensor 2 circuit for bank 2. For NTC thermistor sensors, high voltage means very high resistance, which the PCM interprets as an extremely low (implausible) temperature. This is typically an open-circuit condition where the sensor is disconnected, has failed open, or has a broken wire. The PCM will default to a substitute temperature value for engine management.

Diagnostic Steps

1

Check the IAT sensor 2 bank 2 PID — a reading of -40°F or extremely low temperature with the engine cold confirms an open/high circuit.

2

Verify the sensor connector is fully seated and the locking tab is engaged — simply reconnecting a loose connector may resolve the issue.

3

Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance across the terminals — it should be 2–3 kΩ at room temperature. An OL (infinite) reading means the sensor has failed open.

4

If the sensor tests good, connect a known-good 2.2 kΩ resistor across the harness-side connector pins — if the PID shows a plausible temperature reading, the wiring to the PCM is intact and the original sensor is faulty.

5

Perform a continuity test on the signal and ground wires from the sensor connector back to the PCM connector to identify any open wires.

What causes P00A8?

The most common cause of P00A8 (Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit High Bank 2) is: Open-circuit failure in the intake air temperature sensor 2 on bank 2

How much does it cost to fix P00A8?

Typical repair costs for P00A8 range from $40 to $200, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.

Is it safe to drive with P00A8?

Safe to drive. The PCM will use a default temperature value which is adequate for normal driving. Fuel economy and emissions may be slightly affected. Repair when convenient to restore optimal engine management.

How do I diagnose P00A8?

Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to P00A8 to identify the root cause.
