What Does C1405 Mean?
The ABS module has detected an open circuit in the rear traction control valve solenoid wiring. There is a break in the electrical path preventing the module from energizing the rear traction control valve. The traction control warning light will illuminate and rear traction control intervention will be unavailable.
Common Causes
40%
Broken or disconnected wire in the rear traction control solenoid circuit
25%
Corroded or backed-out terminal pins at the HCU or solenoid connector
20%
Internally open rear traction control solenoid coil
15%
ABS module connector damage causing loss of contact
Diagnostic Steps
1
Disconnect the ABS HCU connector and measure the rear traction control solenoid circuit resistance at the harness-side pins — should read 3-6 ohms if the circuit path to the solenoid is intact.
2
If the reading is open (OL), disconnect the solenoid at the valve end. Measure solenoid coil resistance directly — if OL, the solenoid coil is burned open and must be replaced.
3
If the solenoid is good, perform a continuity check on each wire from the module connector to the solenoid connector to isolate the broken wire.
4
Inspect the harness along its routing for damage, especially near heat sources (exhaust), moving parts (suspension), and areas prone to road salt and moisture.
5
Check all intermediate connectors and splices for corrosion or backed-out terminals. Repair with proper soldered connections and heat-shrink protection.
Estimated Repair Cost
$100 - $1,000

The most common cause of C1405 (Traction Control Valve Rear Circuit Open) is: Broken or disconnected wire in the rear traction control solenoid circuit
Typical repair costs for C1405 range from $100 to $1,000, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
Rear traction control is inoperative. Normal braking is unaffected, but loss of rear traction management increases the risk of rear wheel spin and potential oversteer in low-traction conditions. Safe for careful driving but should be repaired before winter or wet weather driving.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to C1405 to identify the root cause.
