What Does P0250 Mean?
The turbocharger wastegate solenoid B control circuit is reading higher voltage than the ECM expects. This high circuit condition prevents proper control of the secondary wastegate in twin-turbo or sequential turbo configurations. The driver may experience erratic boost control from the secondary turbo, overboost conditions, or limp mode activation at higher RPMs.
Common Causes
30%
Open ground circuit for wastegate solenoid B
25%
Failed wastegate solenoid B with open coil winding
25%
Short to battery voltage in the solenoid B control wiring
15%
Disconnected or heat-damaged solenoid B connector
5%
ECM driver circuit stuck open or high
Diagnostic Steps
1
Inspect the wastegate solenoid B connector for secure connection and heat damage — being near the secondary turbocharger, heat can warp the connector housing and break terminal contact.
2
Measure solenoid B coil resistance — should be 10-40 ohms. An open reading (OL) confirms the solenoid coil has failed and the solenoid must be replaced.
3
With the solenoid disconnected, check the control wire for short to battery voltage — voltage should be near 0V when the ECM is not commanding the solenoid. Battery voltage indicates a wiring short.
4
Check the ground path continuity from the solenoid connector to the ECM — resistance should be under 1 ohm. An open ground will cause the circuit voltage to float high.
5
If wiring and solenoid check good, monitor the ECM driver output with an oscilloscope. The ECM should pulse the ground side to modulate the solenoid. If the driver is stuck open, the ECM may need replacement.
Estimated Repair Cost

The most common cause of P0250 (Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid B High) is: Open ground circuit for wastegate solenoid B
Typical repair costs for P0250 range from $100 to $550, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
Without proper wastegate B control, the secondary turbo's boost is unregulated. Overboost from the secondary turbo at high RPMs can cause engine damage. Drive conservatively, stay at moderate RPMs, and avoid situations requiring full power. If you notice excessive turbo noise or boost surging, stop driving.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to P0250 to identify the root cause.
