What Does P00AA Mean?
The PCM has detected a general circuit malfunction with the intake air temperature sensor 1 on bank 2. This primary IAT sensor monitors the temperature of air entering the intake on the bank 2 side of the engine. The ECM uses this data for fuel injection calculations, spark timing, and emissions controls. A circuit fault means the sensor data cannot be trusted, and the PCM will substitute a default value that may not accurately represent actual intake conditions.
Common Causes
35%
Failed intake air temperature sensor 1 on bank 2 (open or shorted element)
25%
Wiring damage in the IAT sensor 1 bank 2 circuit
20%
Corroded or loose connector preventing reliable electrical contact
12%
Missing or faulty 5V reference voltage at the sensor
8%
PCM internal circuit failure on the IAT1 bank 2 input
Diagnostic Steps
1
Read the IAT sensor 1 bank 2 PID with the engine cold — it should match ambient temperature within 5°F/3°C. Values of -40°F or 280°F+ indicate open or short circuit faults respectively.
2
Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance across the terminals — expected 2–3 kΩ at 68°F/20°C for a standard NTC thermistor. OL means open; near 0 Ω means shorted.
3
With the sensor disconnected and key on, verify 5V reference voltage is present at the harness-side signal pin. If missing, trace the 5V reference circuit for a short or open.
4
Check the ground circuit at the harness connector — measure voltage drop from the ground pin to battery negative (less than 100 mV with circuit loaded).
5
Inspect the sensor connector and PCM connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or mechanical damage that could prevent reliable contact.

The most common cause of P00AA (Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Bank 2) is: Failed intake air temperature sensor 1 on bank 2 (open or shorted element)
Typical repair costs for P00AA range from $60 to $300, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
Safe to drive short-term. The PCM will use a default value that provides adequate but not optimal engine management. Fuel economy and emissions may be affected. Repair in a timely manner.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to P00AA to identify the root cause.
