What Does P005B Mean?
The PCM has detected that the 'B' camshaft profile control system on Bank 1 is stuck in the on (activated) position and will not return to the default profile. This means the variable valve timing or lift system is locked in the high-performance or alternate profile when it should have deactivated. Disconnect the cam profile solenoid 'B' on Bank 1. If the cam profile returns to the default position (monitor via scan data), the solenoid or its circuit was keeping it energized. If it remains stuck, the mechanism is mechanically jammed.

With the solenoid disconnected, check for voltage on the control wire — voltage present with KOEO indicates a short to power in the harness or PCM driver stuck on.

Measure solenoid coil resistance (6–15 ohms typical). Check that the solenoid plunger moves freely when compressed and released — a sticking plunger needs replacement.

If mechanical binding is suspected, remove the valve cover and inspect the cam profile switching mechanism. Look for broken locking pins, damaged rocker arms, or debris in the oil galleries feeding the mechanism.
