What Does P002C Mean?
The ECM has detected a high voltage condition in the 'B' camshaft profile control solenoid circuit on Bank 1. The circuit voltage is above the expected range, typically indicating an open ground path, short to battery voltage, or a failed solenoid. The driver may notice rough idle, reduced power, poor fuel economy, and an illuminated Check Engine Light.
Common Causes
30%
Open ground circuit in the solenoid wiring (broken ground wire)
25%
Wiring shorted to battery voltage (B+) in the harness
25%
Faulty camshaft profile control solenoid (open coil causing high impedance)
15%
Corroded or backed-out connector pin preventing proper ground
5%
ECM ground driver failure (unable to sink current)
Diagnostic Steps
1
Review freeze frame data and monitor the camshaft profile solenoid duty cycle PID. With the engine running, command the solenoid through various duty cycles and observe if the voltage remains high regardless of command.
2
Disconnect the solenoid connector and measure the voltage on the ECM control wire. If it reads near battery voltage with the solenoid disconnected, the wire is shorted to B+ in the harness, or the ECM driver is stuck high.
3
Measure solenoid coil resistance across its terminals — expect 7–13 ohms. An infinite (OL) reading means the coil is open, which would cause a high-voltage condition on the circuit.
4
Check the ground path from the solenoid connector back to the ECM. Measure continuity on the ground control wire — resistance should be below 1 ohm. An open or high-resistance reading in this path will cause the circuit to float high.
5
Inspect the harness for chafing against power supply wires or fusible links. Any place the control wire insulation is damaged near a power source could create a short to B+.

The most common cause of P002C ("B" Camshaft Profile Control Circuit High Bank 1) is: Open ground circuit in the solenoid wiring (broken ground wire)
Typical repair costs for P002C range from $100 to $450, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
The vehicle can be driven at reduced performance. VVT will not adjust cam timing, so expect decreased power and fuel economy. Not immediately dangerous, but should be repaired soon to prevent potential engine timing issues at high load.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to P002C to identify the root cause.
