What Does B2115 Mean?
DTC B2115 indicates that the Body Control Module (BCM) has detected an abnormal short circuit to ground in the rear windshield washer pump control circuit. The BCM monitors the rear washer switch input signal and has detected that the circuit voltage is being pulled to ground when it should be at a reference voltage. This electrical fault prevents proper operation of the rear washer system and triggers the diagnostic trouble code.
Common Causes
45%
Damaged or chafed wiring harness between BCM and rear washer pump causing short to ground
30%
Failed rear washer pump motor with internal short to ground
15%
Faulty rear washer switch with internal short circuit
10%
Water intrusion or corrosion at electrical connectors causing ground path
Diagnostic Steps
1
Step 1: Perform visual inspection of the rear washer pump wiring harness from BCM to pump, paying special attention to tailgate hinge area and rear liftgate flex points for chafing, pinching, or visible damage to insulation
2
Step 2: Disconnect the rear washer pump electrical connector and measure resistance between the BCM control wire (pump side) and vehicle ground using a digital multimeter; reading should be infinite ohms (open circuit), any continuity indicates a short to ground in wiring or pump
3
Step 3: If wiring tests good, isolate the pump by measuring resistance across pump motor terminals; should show typical motor resistance (5-15 ohms between terminals) but infinite resistance between each terminal and pump housing/ground
4
Step 4: If pump tests good, disconnect rear washer switch connector and measure resistance between switch signal wire and ground with switch in both off and activated positions; should show open circuit in off position and proper switching behavior when activated
5
Step 5: Check BCM connectors for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that may cause intermittent ground contact; clean and apply dielectric grease if needed
6
Step 6: Clear codes, reconnect all components, and perform functional test of rear washer system; monitor live data for proper voltage at BCM input while cycling the rear washer switch to verify repair
Estimated Repair Cost
$75 - $400

The most common cause of B2115 (Rear Washer Input Short to Ground) is: Damaged or chafed wiring harness between BCM and rear washer pump causing short to ground
Typical repair costs for B2115 range from $75 to $400, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
This code does not affect vehicle safety or drivability and the vehicle is safe to operate. The only impact is loss of rear windshield washer function which may reduce rear visibility in adverse weather conditions; repair at earliest convenience.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to B2115 to identify the root cause.
